Newsletter article 10-2010

October 31 is a significant day in the Wynkoop house. Eight years ago, on Halloween, in a snow storm in Denver, we loaded up a Penske moving truck and made our way to Wray. Marnie and I had never lived in a small town before. We weren’t sure if this thing would work out for the long run, but we were willing to give it a go and felt God leading us.

During the first couple years, our church was part of a yoke relationship with the First Presbyterian Church. Sunday’s for the Wynkoops included two worship services, two nurseries, and two buildings. It was two too many!

Today, we find ourselves with one wonderful church, new seats full of new folks, and a crowded nursery. It’s a long way from our early years here when our three kids literally doubled the size of the nursery!

So what will the next eight years hold? Lord willing, Sammy and Bayleigh will be high school graduates and Davey will be driving. Lord willing, our church will continue to reach those whom Jesus misses most. Imagine a church in Wray where no perfect people are allowed. Imagine a church where people love God and love each other well. My prayer is that eight years from now, we would lead more people into a growing relationship with Jesus. That the comfortable would be afflicted and the afflicted would be comforted.
