Day 8 of New Thru 30! I hope worship yesterday encouraged everyone to just keep reading! Keep at it. I know it's hard work and can be slow going. Let God shape you through his Word. Here are some thoughts from today's reading:
- The message of the Gospel doesn't change Mark 1:15
- Jesus invitation is still offered today Mark 1:17
- Mark 2:5-11 Jesus claims to be God
- The crisis begins to build Mark 3:6
- Sadly, I've known a lot of folks who's hearts are rocky soil (Mark 4:4-6). What kind of soil is your heart?
- I think this is the first person Jesus has told to go and tell others what God has done for him Mark 5:19
- Mark 6:5 This is a striking statement. Here's a quote: "The absence of faith hinders receptivity to God and his activity." Cooper, R. L. (2000). Vol. 2: Mark. Holman New Testament Commentary; Holman Reference (101). Nashville, TN: Broadman & Holman Publishers.
- It is so easy to let our human traditions and preferences get in the way of actually worshiping God Mark 7:5-8! We must resist this at all costs!
- Some of the most difficult words Jesus ever said: Mark 8:34-37. Jesus is much more than a good moral teacher.
- If you don't know what to say keep your mouth shut! Mark 9:6
- Whoever wants to be first must be slave of all (Mark 10:44). Definitely some unpopular words from Jesus
- Why did Jesus come? Mark 10:45
Tomorrow we finish the book of Mark and read James and Galatians! This is going to be a great week of Scripture reading! Be sure to spend some time reflecting on the key verse for the day, Mark 8:34-35.
Grace and peace,Steve
