Today we make our way through three of Paul's letters, two written to the church in Thessalonica and one to the church in Corinth. Most biblical scholars believe that 1 Thessalonians was the first letter written by the Apostle Paul, making it the oldest document in the New Testament written in 50 or 51 A.D. It is believed that he wrote 1 Thessalonians from Corinth. 2 Thessalonians was written several months after 1 Thessalonians. The first letter to Corinth was written while Paul spent 3 years in Ephesus between 53 and 57 A.D. The churches in Thessalonica and Corinth were founded by Paul. Here are some reflections on today's readings:
- 1 Thessalonians 2:8 captures my philosophy of ministry.
- A pastor's worst nightmare 1 Thessalonians 3:5
- Biblical argument against welfare? 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
- Hope for those who grieve 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
- A great couple of verses to memorize: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
- If we believe the gospel, we will obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus 2 Thessalonians 1:8
- We would do well to do the same 2 Thessalonians 2:15
- Another biblical argument against welfare? 2 Thessalonians 3:10
- You mean that was a problem back then too?! 1 Corinthians 1:10-11
- What are you building your life on and with? 1 Corinthians 3:10-15
- Sexual immorality should not be tolerated in the church. These are difficult words in our day and age! 1 Corinthians 5:1
- It's not our business to judge those outside the church 1 Corinthians 5:12
- The work of grace: washed, sanctified, justified 1 Corinthians 6:11
- Important words for our day: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
- Healthy sexuality in marriage: 1 Corinthians 7:2-5
- Why should Christians marry according to Paul? 1 Corinthians 7:9
- Don't cause others to stumble and fall 1 Corinthians 8:13
- Why it's ok to pay your pastor!
1 Corinthians 9:14 - Another key verse in my philosophy of ministry 1 Corinthians 9:22
- Quite a warning against grumbling! 1 Corinthians 10:10
- Powerful words when facing temptation 1 Corinthians 10:13
- Another key verse in my philosophy of ministry 1 Corinthians 11:1. Christianity is caught not taught. Spiritual leadership is by example.
Another day in the books! Tomorrow we finish 1 Corinthians and read through 2 Corinthians. Keep reading!
Grace and peace,Steve
